Janice Rubin is considered one of the country’s foremost experts on employment law.
Her fellow lawyers ranked her one of the best among them in the inaugural edition of "The Best Lawyers in Canada" published in June 2006, again in 2007-2008 and 2009. Based on a rigorous, peer-review survey, this is considered to be the highest form of professional accolade by the legal profession and the public.
Janice is co-founder and Managing Partner of Rubin Thomlinson LLP, a law firm focused on providing optimal legal solutions to challenging workplace issues to employer and employee clients.
The firm provides expert counsel on all legal issues pertaining to the workplace such as hiring, retaining and terminating employees, disability accommodation, performance management and employment contracts. The firm’s clients are amongst Canada’s leading corporations and employers. Most recently, Janice and her partner Christine Thomlinson were finalists in the prestigious RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Awards.
While recognized for her depth of expertise in all areas of workplace law, Janice is considered a leading authority in the area of workplace harassment. Certified as a workplace investigator, Janice is entrusted to act as a neutral third party in conducting investigations into allegations of harassment, bullying and poisoned work environment and other employee misconduct. In 2007, together with partner Christine Thomlinson, Janice co-authored Human Resources Guide to Workplace Investigations, published by Canada Law Book. She is also a highly skilled mediator in workplace disputes.
Janice is also the author of Law of Termination in Ontario, and has published numerous articles on employment law. She is a regular contributor to legal education programs for lawyers, and has taught employment law at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is frequently interviewed by the media on matters related to the workplace, most recently on CBC Newsworld and Canada AM, and has participated in webinars for the Conference Board of Canada and the Women’s Executive Network.
Also active in her community, Janice has recently been named the chair of the Canadian Women’s Foundation "Women Moving Women" campaign, which is a national economic development initiative to help women living in poverty in Canada.
Janice graduated from the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1991. She graduated from Harvard University’s Basic and Advanced Negotiation Skills program in 1997 and the CDR Associates mediation course in 1998.
