Upcoming Teleseminar:
60 Minutes with RT: An Update on Family Status and Accommodation
June 16, 2011 12 noon – 1pm EDT
Family Status has long been recognized as a prohibited ground of discrimination under human rights legislation. However, this area of human rights law has received much judicial attention in the last few years. Interestingly, the recent case law has provided us with two diverging views on what is necessary for an employee to establish a case of discrimination based on family status, as well as the extent to which employers must go to accommodate on the basis of family status.
Join employment lawyers Christine Thomlinson and Sarah Vokey for an informative hour‐long session that will update you on the current status of the law with respect to family status and provide you with guidance on navigating family status issues in your workplace.
Our interactive discussion will include:
- A legislative review of family status protection in Canada;
- A summary of the recent case law on family status in Canada and the divergent views;
- An outline of the employer’s and employee’s responsibilities in the workplace with respect to the accommodation of family status concerns;
- Practical tips for managing family status complaints and accommodation requests in the workplace.
