Cory Boyd

B.A. Hons., LL.B., Practice Lead, Workplace Investigations

“I do what I do for a living because it satisfies the inquisitive and analytical aspects of my personality. I believe workplace investigations can truly improve an organization if done effectively.”

Cory Boyd became truly aware of the importance of social justice during a year-long student exchange in Japan after graduating high school. Embraced by a new community despite initially being unable to speak their language, Cory developed a deep appreciation of the importance of being treated as an equal and returned to Canada committed to the protection of human rights.

Since beginning his career, Cory has worked with the Ontario Human Rights Commission, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and Toronto Community Housing as an in-house investigator and human rights consultant. At Rubin Thomlinson, he continues to apply his analytical skills to conducting workplace investigations and preparing thorough reports. In addition, Cory assists employers in developing systems to ensure compliance with legal and ethical obligations, creating effective workplace policies and procedures and delivering training to staff at all levels on their roles within the process. He also works with clients prior to, or following, a complaint in order to identify individual and systemic issues within the organization and to create a plan to restore the workplace and allow employees to move forward.

Cory strives to be fair and efficient, adapting to the characteristics of every workplace he encounters while being respectful of their unique workplace culture.

Cory regularly presents at conferences and writes on the subjects of workplace investigations, workplace restorations, bullying and harassment, human rights developments and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. He also continues to advance his professional knowledge, recently completing courses in ADR, Conflict Management and Compliance and Ethics.  He is a trained mediator and investigator, and is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional.

Cory is a Board Member with the Toronto Dance Theatre. He also enjoys both playing and watching sports, particularly the Toronto Blue Jays and FC Barcelona. He regularly heads to Florida for Blue Jays Spring Training, and has also twice visited Camp Nou in Barcelona to watch FCB play.
