Maria Luisa Vitti joins Rubin Thomlinson as the firm’s first ever articling student. Maria Luisa will be providing support to both the firm’s employment law and workplace investigation practices.
While studying at Osgoode Hall Law School, Maria Luisa was elected Equity Officer for the Legal and Literary Society – Osgoode’s student government. In this position, she worked to promote diversity, inclusivity, and anti-discrimination initiatives. Maria Luisa also sat on Osgoode’s Admissions’ Committee, and participated in a spring exchange with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
In her final year, Maria Luisa served as a Case Worker in the Workers’ Rights division at Parkdale Community Legal Services. This is where Maria Luisa’s interest in employment law was further strengthened as she addressed an assortment of employment law-related matters including: human rights complaints, wrongful and constructive dismissals, and Employment Standards Act violations. Maria Luisa graduated from Osgoode as a recipient of the Legal and Literary Society’s Student Honour Award.
Maria Luisa has actively participated in several community legal action initiatives having volunteered at the Workers’ Action Centre, Osgoode’s Community and Legal Aid Services Programme, and the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted (now Innocence Canada).
Prior to law school, Maria Luisa obtained a Master’s Degree in Social Justice and Equity Studies from Brock University. She developed a strong theoretical background in social inequality, anti-discrimination theory, and distributive justice. Maria Luisa’s research engaged in complex issues related to organizational cultures, explored intra and extra-organizational forms of discrimination, and enabled her to develop transformative and reformative solutions.
In her spare time, Maria Luisa enjoys travelling, baking, and visiting Toronto’s many street festivals.
